NASA used U.S. Pipe for Space Shuttle Launch Pads

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) called upon U.S. Pipe back in 1998 to upgrade their old steel water lines to ductile iron pipe. The need was for their FIREX water system which is a fire suppression water spray, and for the Sound Suppression System which is used for sound wave management.

U.S. Pipe ductile iron pipe was chosen for it’s ability to withstand the vibration of the launch pad, as well as it’s pressure ratings and surge allowance. This system is still in place to this day.  Utilizing over 8,000 feet of ductile iron pipe, the system pumps 450,000 gallons of water per minute!
