U.S. Pipe releases new conductive gasket, TY-CON™
U.S. Pipe Introduces TY-CON Conductive Gasket for Thawing Ductile Iron Pipes
U.S. Pipe has unveiled the TY-CON Conductive Gasket, a solution designed to help utilities thaw frozen ductile iron pipes in cold climates. This innovative gasket uses copper segments that provides a reliable method for thawing water mains and service lines, especially during the harsh winter months.
The TY-CON Conductive Gasket is specifically designed for use with the time-tested TYTON JOINT® system in ductile iron pipe and fittings. By integrating copper-bronze segments molded into the gasket, it creates an efficient electrical current path between the bell and spigot of the pipe. This current flow is essential for the thawing process, which allows utilities to safely and effectively defrost pipes over several segments, ensuring the continued flow of water to homes.
One of the standout features of the TY-CON gasket is its ability to handle up to 600 amps of DC current, ensuring a steady and reliable electrical path for thawing operations. The copper-bronze segments maintain performance even with pipe and soil movements, all while preserving the gasket’s full range of deflection capabilities, which is crucial for ensuring joint flexibility.
The TY-CON gasket is easy to install, and is available in sizes ranging from 4-12 inches and can be used with HDSS® restrained joint pipe and fittings as well. It has a 350-psi working pressure rating, ensuring durability under a range of operational conditions.
Constructed from Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR), the TY-CON gasket includes a soft rubber bulb and a harder heel, bonded securely for strength. Importantly, no reclaimed rubber is used in its production, ensuring superior quality. The gasket also meets the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) Standard ANSI/NSF-61, guaranteeing its safety for use in drinking water systems.
With a maximum service temperature rating of 150°F, the TY-CON gasket is ideal for a variety of water and sewer applications, including drinking water, sea water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater systems. It conforms to the ANSI/AWWA C111/A21.11 standard, making it a trusted solution for utilities in cold climates looking to maintain service during winter.
The TY-CON Conductive Gasket from U.S. Pipe is a game-changer for utilities managing frozen ductile iron pipes, ensuring reliable service and efficient thawing even in the coldest temperatures.
