More than 36,000 feet of U.S. Pipe’s ductile iron pipe ‘met all expectations’ in replacing York County Force Main

York County, South Carolina: U.S. Pipe supplied more than thirty-six thousand feet of 30” ductile iron pipe for the Steele Creek Force Main Replacement Design Build. The reinforced sewer improvement benefits residents of York Co, S.C., located thirty minutes southeast of the greater Charlotte metropolitan area.
A phase of this project included the installation of a thirteen-hundred-foot directional bore located under the Catawba River. This connection ties into the Manchester Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The design & development of the project was a collaborative effort between U.S. Pipe/U.S. Pipe Fabrication, State Utility, York County and HDR Engineering. The teams worked closely in comprising material lists, drafting sketch drawings, composing delivery schedules by phase, and more in effort to complete the project.
“There was a tremendous amount of communication required which began many months before the pipe hit the job site,” says Matt Rogers, U.S. Pipe Sales Manager. “Everyone involved made this a successful project which will directly benefit the residents of York County. Big thanks to our strong contractor State Utility for teaming with York County Engineering, and HDR Engineering to design the project & install the pipe.”
U.S. Pipe began shipping pipe to the jobsite in the Spring of 2022. 9,550 feet of 30” HDSS pipe, 28,000 feet of Tyton Pipe, and a large assortment of USPF fabricated pipe and fittings were utilized in effort to complete this project culminating in the Winter of 2023.
“I would like to thank the U.S. Pipe team for assisting us in making the Steele Creek 30” Force Main Design Build a success. This project persisted during severe materials shortages due to U.S. Pipe’s representatives’ professionalism and consistent communication,” says Mike Paluso of State Utility Contractors.
Paluso also expressed his pleasure in U.S. Pipe’s latest proprietary product, ‘HDSS High Pressure Restraint Pipe with Deflection,’ “The Steele creek Force Main is our initial project installing HDSS pipe. It met all our expectations. The extra deflection provided via HDSS assisted us in navigating through challenging situations.”
