On May 4th, fire study No. 3 was conducted at the U.S. Pipe Product Innovation test facility in Bessemer, Alabama. This study was conducted on two 6-ft long 8-inch HDSS® pipes assembled with the joint positioned in the center of the assembly. A standard SBR TYTON JOINT® gasket was used. The pipe ends were capped with MJ caps with MJ restraining glands. This study was conducted to determine the fire resistance and the survivability of a gasketed restrained joint using a modified version of the following ISO standards: ISO 19921- Ships and marine technology- Fire resistance of metallic pipe components with resilient and elastomeric seals- test methods and ISO 19922 – Ships and marine technology- Fire resistance of metallic pipe components with resilient and elastomeric seals- Requirements imposed on the test bench.
Watch to see the process of how and why we offer metallic zinc coating on our ductile iron pipe, and how it works. Metallic Zinc coating can ensure that your ductile iron pipe lasts well beyond the competition.
The HDSS® pipe is the newest addition to the U.S. Pipe product line. It was designed as a high pressure restrained pipe with added deflection. HDSS Pipe and Fittings can provide a true 350psi working pressure with a flexible restrained push-on joint for 4”- 54” ductile iron pipe and fittings with between 2° and 5° of deflection to allow for alignment and settlement issues in buried applications. The simple robust design and added deflection make this the strongest joint on the market, and ideal for bridge piping, horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and pipe bursting applications.
U.S. Pipe TYTON Joint and TR FLEX ductile iron pipe installed in a bridge crossing in Shelby, North Carolina. U.S. Pipe's restrained joint pipes with deflection like TR FLEX and HDSS are a key component in bridge crossings.
U.S. Pipe TR-XTREME is a seismic pipe that resists various seismic movements to ensure continued service despite soil movement. ERDIP (earthquake resistant ductile iron pipe) was designed for soil movement as many areas are prone to seismic events. The strength and longevity of ductile iron pipe make it a perfect choice for seismic affected areas as the strength of the pipe and the design compensate for movement and sheer.
Proper planning and execution is critical to ensure the pipe installed on the bridge functions properly throughout the duration of it's installment. U.S. Pipe ductile iron was chosen to replace a problematic pipeline made up of an alternative material that was allowing sand intrusion. The 64" TYTON Joint pipeline with Protecto 401 will take care of the wastewater needs for the Columbia South Carolina area for decades to come.
Zinc metallizing with a high purity zinc wire has been utilized for external corrosion control of iron pipe for over 50 years, and supplied by U.S. Pipe for over 20 years. Watch to see the process of how and why we offer metallic zinc coating on our ductile iron pipe. Metallic Zinc coating can ensure that your ductile iron pipe lasts well over 100 years.
U.S. Pipe Metalfit supplies fittings (including C153 Mechanical Joint Fittings and C110 Flanged Fittings), castings, and various other unique components for the water and wastewater industry, as well as many other industrial applications.
