I was pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree in Engineering Graphics and Design at Shelton State Community College, where I was building and expanding my skills in drafting and design. As I was nearing the end of my spring semester, U.S. Pipe reached out to local technical schools with drafting programs, seeking a summer intern. After a successful interview, I was selected for a summer internship with U.S. Pipe, where I worked on developing a 3D library of pipes and fittings at the Headquarters Office. The primary goal of the project was to transition the company’s pipe drafting process from 2D to 3D, utilizing Civil 3D software to enhance workflow efficiency and design accuracy. This internship not only provided me with valuable hands-on experience but also allowed me to directly apply the concepts I had learned in my classes to real-world projects. I also had the opportunity to learn new programs, such as Inventor, which I had never used before, and work closely with a team to bring the project to life. My experience helped me grow both professionally and personally. My internship proved invaluable in preparing me for my upcoming fall semester, as I had already been exposed to the software and tools we were about to study. U.S. Pipe quickly felt like home; I was welcomed with open arms and always felt supported. At the end of the summer, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to expand my internship by being hired by U.S. Pipe into a drafting position, where I assist with various projects with Project Innovation team and the drafting department. I am deeply grateful for the connections I made and the relationships I built with so many wonderful people during my experience. It was an incredibly rewarding summer that not only advanced my education but also helped shape my career moving forward.
